The Top 5 Miley Moments Of All Time
From the near-topless Kimmel appearance to the twerk heard 'round the world...Miley's got moments for days.
Miley Cyrus is on top of the world right now. So rarely do we see a celebrity go from being universally reviled to absolutely beloved. Now she's bringing her unique brand of post-internet aesthetics to the VMAs, which will air this Sunday on MTV. To celebrate the occasion, we're taking a look back at the best Miley moments of all time.
1. The Wrecking Ball Music Video
Miley debuted her new look only shortly after the release of the internet-breaking Bangerz, directed by controversial photographer Terry Richardson. The starkly shot, all-white look paired with sexually suggestive imagery left the world staring open-mouthed, not sure whether to gawk or gag. The endless amount of parody videos inspired by the song was a true testament to Cyrus' staying power as a star.
2. The Terry Richardson Photos
Lady Cyrus caused quite a stir by posing for some salacious photos with Terry, who later posted them publicly to his Tumblr.
3. Miley and Laura Jane
Miley launched her Happy Hippie Foundation with a series of backyard music videos. Championing the LGBT cause, one of these videos featured transgender punk legend Laura Jane Grace jamming to her queer power anthem “True Trans Soul Rebel”.
4. Miley on Kimmel
Ahead of her VMAs performance, Miley took to Kimmel's stage bearing most of her boobs and refusing to apologize. “Humans aren’t afraid of the human breast. It’s the nipple that’s the issue,” she said. “Like, I’m showing my boobs and no one has a problem, but the nipples are covered, so somehow that’s OK. So America’s actually fine with tits. It’s nipples they don’t like.”
5. The Twerk Heard Round The World
Miley became a household name with her earth-shattering and twerk-inducing VMA performance alongside Robin Thicke in 2013. She would later go on to be accused of cultural appropriation (amongst other things), but the moment itself will continue to live in infamy until the end of time.
