This All-Hijab Runway Show Just Made Fashion Week History
Designer Anniesa Hasibuan debuted a collection unlike any other ever seen at New York Fashion Week.
Anniesa Hasibuan just won fashion week. The Muslim Indonesian fashion designer made history with her runway show featuring 48 models whose looks all incorporated hijabs. It's the first time in the history of New York Fashion Week that a show has featured hijabs in every single outfit, Elle reports.
Hasibuan fashion week collection, called D'Jakarta, featured silk hijabs, long, flowing skirts and trousers, and an emphasis on gorgeous details. Her show was such a success that she received a standing ovation from the crowd - no easy feat during one of the most high-pressure fashion events of the year. It's especially notable when you consider that Hasibuan's brand is only a year old.
"I want to bring the Indonesian name to the fashion world, and use my clothes to introduce people to the different and diverse parts of Indonesia," Hasibuan told The Jakarta Post. To bring the theme home, Hasibuan collaborated with Indonesian makeup brand Wardah for the show.
Not only are her runway looks amazing, but Hasibuan's personal style is pretty much the embodiment of #Goals too. Just look at this stunning photo of Hasibuan looking flawless in the desert. How can one person even look that amazing in what's probably 100+ degree heat?
Keep slaying, Anniesa!
