Wonder Woman got the pink slip from the United Nations. The comic book hero has been fired as an honorary ambassador following protests around her image.
Despite being a kick-ass superhero, Wonder Woman had come under criticism due to her tight costume and curvy figure. According to the Telegraph, nearly 45,000 people signed an online petition asking UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to reconsider her hiring. "Although the original creators may have intended Wonder Woman to represent a strong and independent 'warrior' woman with a feminist message, the reality is that the character's current iteration is that of a large breasted, white woman of impossible proportions," the petition stated.
"Wonder Woman stands for peace, justice and equality, and for 75 years she has been a motivating force for many and will continue to be long after the conclusion of her UN Honorary Ambassadorship," Courtney Simmons of DC Entertainment said.
Wonder Woman was appointed on October 21 and it was planned that she would be part of a bigger campaign to empower women in 2017. A United Nations spokesman did not explain why Wonder Woman has been fired specifically but said that she'll have to leave the office on Friday.
