A 12-year-old girl in New York City is facing felony assault charges after pouring boiling water on the face of her 11-year-old friend.
According to NY1, Jamoneisha Merritt was at a sleepover Monday morning when her friend poured hot water on her as part of a "game" called the "Hot Water Challenge."
Merritt has burns to her face, neck, shoulders and chest. Her mother says that the girl is in both physical and emotional pain. "She's very sad. She's emotionally messed up. She don't understand why they did that to her. She thought they was her friends," Ebony Merritt said. "I was told that they didn't like her. And they just been bullying her. They've been on Snapchat. It's been going on several times. The girl admitted it. 'I don't like her. I wanted to do it.'"
Spectrum News, per Crime Online, says the girls were supposedly best friends. The so-called "Hot Water Challenge" is apparently a social media prank in which people are dared to pour boiling water on unsuspecting people.
There was an adult in the home at the time.
