A young girl was found dead behind her New Jersey housing complex 15 hours after her mother reported her missing.
The body of 11-year-old Abbiegail Smith was found Thursday morning in Keansburg, N.J., behind the home where she lived with her mother. Her death is being investigated as a homicide according to the New York Daily News.
Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni called the death an “isolated crime.” An autopsy report is pending.
“We have no reason to believe that you or your child should be worried,” he told a parent at a news conference, NJ.com reported.
Friday morning, an arrest was made.
Andreas Erazo, 18, has been arrested on a murder charge. He lived in the same building, according to NBC New York.
Smith’s mother is described as a strict parent.
“She’s [Abbiegail Smith] not allowed to even walk to the store by herself,” a woman named Jasmine told NJ.com.
Neighbors called the slain girl good and sweet.
