17-Year-Old Found Shot, Dumped In River Day After He Went Missing: 'We Knew It Was Going To Be Bad'

His family members claim his "best friend" is one of those responsible for his death.

A Texas teen who would have turned 18 on Sunday was found shot to death a day after he was reported missing.

Houston’s KHOU 11 first reported on the death of Devin Davalos after his body was found at a boat ramp along the Brazos River in Brazoria County. According to family members, one of those responsible for his death was his “best friend.”

Davalos went missing Wednesday, October 11, after getting off work at the Diamond S Restaurant in Bay City, Texas, according to ABC13 in Houston. His family reported him missing the following day and began to worry after police find his car burning in a rural area outside town. “We knew it was going to be bad,” his brother Derrick told KHOU.

Police discovered Devin’s body Friday after investigating a separate robbery which had occurred earlier in the week at a local school, according to NBC affiliate KPRC 2.  Police say he had been shot several times and believe his body was then driven to the boat launch, where his body was dumped.

On Friday, police arrested Michael Trevino Jr, 17, and an unidentified 16-year-old and charged them with aggravated assault. While neither has yet been to be charged with Davalos’ murder, police say the arrests are connected with the case. According to Devin’s family, police told them more people were likely involved in the shooting.

According to KHOU, in a statement Bay City Police called the case “complicated” and have sought the help of the Texas Rangers.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Davalos family with Devin’s funeral expenses.

In speaking with KHOU, Damien Davalos called his younger brother’s death, “heartbreaking,” while their mother Liza told ABC 13, "It doesn't make sense."
