A South Carolina woman was arrested on charges that she killed her dad last Tuesday after he tried to evict her from her childhood home, People magazine reported.
Brittany Simpson, 31, had been staying with her parents without paying rent, though she supposedly contributed to the utility costs, The Post and Courier reported. She stopped these payments in March, when her mother tried to evict her.
On Tuesday, she allegedly shot her father, then told emergency responders that the shooting was the work of an intruder. Simpson’s sister questioned her account, and investigators soon discovered that Simpson’s 9 mm pistol had gone missing.
Police searched a creek behind the family’s home and found the gun and a book bag filled with the clothes that Simpson had worn earlier that day. The items were weighted to the creek floor with a pink anchor.
Simpson later reportedly confessed to police that she had shot her father.
Simpson had been unemployed and on disability at the time of the attack, her lawyer told The Post and Courier. He declined to specify what disability Simpson had, but said that she was well-loved in her community.
She is being held without bail on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
