4-Year-Old Boy Gets Banned From School For Having Long Hair

“It's a sexist rule that should not be implemented for boys if it's not implemented for girls."

A 4-year-old boy from Texas was allegedly banned from his school because he has long hair.

Jabez’s mother, 25-year-old Jessica Oates, was told on Friday that her son cannot return to Barber’s Hill Kindergarten Center until he gets a haircut, Chron reported.

So, on Monday, Oates put Jabez's hair in a bun and tried to bring him to school. But, he wasn’t allowed inside. Oates told Chron that she doesn’t want to cut her son’s hair.

"It's not an option," she said. "It's part of my child."

Oates posted a video of her talking to a school administrator on Facebook.

Oates also created a petition on Change.org. On it, she wrote, “It's a sexist rule that should not be implemented for boys if it's not implemented for girls. It's that simple. Girls have no rule on the length of their hair and it does not pose safety threats nor distraction concerns. The same courtesy should be extended to my child. I have tried to meet them halfway. I have no problem putting his hair up or keeping it in a bun but that is simply not good enough for this district.”
