Aaron Hernandez's fiancee is speaking out for the first time since his suicide. Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez sits down with Dr. Phil to reveal that she couldn't believe that the former New England Patriots player killed himself in prison. “I thought it was a hoax,” she said. “That this was some cruel person playing a trick on me.”

In the two-part interview (screenshot above), Jenkins-Hernandez talks about her fiance's death and how she wasn't expecting it. "Our last talk had nothing to do with suicidal thoughts.” On April 19. Hernandez was found naked, hanging from a sheet in his cell while serving time for a murder conviction. Three suicide notes were found and reportedly including a message for his fiance.

The fiancee also discusses the fact that Hernandez's guilty conviction was voided. As reported yesterday, the conviction was overturned due to a legal rule in Massachusetts that erases a conviction if a defendant dies before appeals have been processed.

As People notes, this leaves the possibility for Hernandez's estate to pursue $6.5 million in unpaid salary from his previous NFL team.
