A baby died in a hot car while her mother got her hair done. According to the AJC, one-year-old Skylar Fowler died after being left in a car for hours on June 15. The mother, 25-year-old Dijanelle Fowler, is now charged with murder.
According to authorities, the mother was gone for six hours. She had a hair appointment in the Northlake Tower Festival Shopping Center in Dekalb County. Surveillance footage shows her walking in at 10 a.m and she didn't leave until 4 p.m. Authorities don't believe she intentionally meant to harm the child as she left the air conditioning running. By the time she returned, the car had shut off.
At 4:54pm, the mother called 911 but police say that she made no mention of her child in that call. When authorities arrived, they discovered the mother in the car at the Emory University Hospital parking garage and the child dead in the backseat. The death was initially deemed suspicious but the mother was not charged.
Dijanelle Fowler was arrested on Monday. She has been charged second degree murder, child cruelty and concealing the death.
