An 18-month old baby MJ Raya has died after being dragged and killed by the family Rottweiler in Phoenix on Friday.

According to ABC 15,the baby's grandmother was doing laundry and left a door open in the room where the baby was. The Rottweiler got inside the room and dragged the baby outside, despite attempts by the grandmother to separate the two.

She called authorities who say that the dog was still attacking the child when they arrived. One officer injured the dog—which belonged to the baby's father as a pet for three years— with one shot and then they were able to free the child. Raya was taken to the hospital but succumbed to injuries.

This is one of several recent dog attacks that have taken the lives of babies. A pit bull killed a six-month-old in Las Vegas in May and one is believed to have killed a three-month-old in Michigan.

Monica and Marcos Raya are now raising funds for the baby's funeral. They say that the attack happened following the baby's first birthday.
