A father believes that the bodies of his missing son and the son's girlfriend have been found in a lover's embrace.
According to the NY Post, Gilbert Orbeso was with searchers at Joshua Tree National Park in California, and he believes that the bodies that were found are of 21 year-old Joseph Orbeso and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Rachel Nguyen.
“I feel like we have closure. We know we found them. That was our main goal, to find them,” said Orbeso. The father and others have been involved in a lengthy search of the ground and aerial areas since the couple was reported missing on July 28. Orbeso posted updates on his social media to help with the search.
“The park will never stop looking for them,” George Land, a spokesman for the national park, said.
Friends and family hoped the young lovers would be found alive. They held a press conference at the Maze Loop trailhead on August 27 to announce that there was a $10,000 reward for any information that led to Nguyen and Orbeso’s safe return.
The pair of hikers was supposed to check into an Airbnb accomodation near the park and never did. The couple's car was later found in the park. It is unclear whether the couple had water and supplies with them.
The park's temperatures in July climbed above 100 degrees.
The bodies of the two adults were found on Sunday. Officials have yet to confirm their identity as Orbeso and Nguyen. The bodies have been sent them to the Coroner's office for identification.
A spokesperson for the park told KTLA that there doesn't appear to be foul play involved in the incident.
