A Bay City, Michigan woman told police she was raped in a Delta College parking lot back in February. But, she later confessed to making the whole thing up, and now she is facing a felony charge.
Mary T. Zolkowski was arraigned on Monday for one count of false report of a felony. She could face up to four years for the charge, the New York Post reported.
Zolkowski had originally claimed that was grabbed by a man from behind as she was walking to her car. She said the rapist grabbed her face and throat as he assaulted her. She told police she only saw her attacker’s hands. Zolkowski allegedly told police she didn’t want a physical examination, according to Michigan Live.
She claimed that the incident caused her to drop out of school. However, it was later determined that she dropped her courses before the alleged assault.
In March, she changed her story and told police she was raped by an acquaintance at an apartment. Police interviewed that man who showed investigators text messages from Zolkowski, in which she claimed to have been raped by a stranger at Walmart. That man told police that Zolkowski told him she wanted a refund from her school and not to talk to invesigators.
