Colorado man Emanuel Joseph Doll has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following the discovery of his slain 4-year-old nephew. Doll stands accused of axe-murdering the child. A motive seems unknown at the moment.
According to People, Emanuel's father, Joseph, had called police to inform them that his son had killed his grandson. Police later found Doll with blood on his clothes and the body of the child in the basement.
“Officers located an axe with what appeared to be blood on it near the body,” reads the affidavit. The child had “suffered a massive amount of trauma" before dying.
Charlotte, Emanuel's mother, had said she was babysitting the boy for the day. At around 9am she heard sounds that she described as “a pillowcase loaded with items hitting the floor."
“Charlotte yelled to Emanuel asking what the noises were,” says the affadavit. “Emanuel replied, ‘nothing’. A few minutes after hearing the noises, Emanuel came upstairs.”
“As neighbors we feel responsible to a point because we just didn’t know there was a child over there,” a nearby resident said.
“It’s just a sad day in the neighborhood,” another neighbor added.
Emanuel had worked for his father's company as a computer coder. Reports make no mention of Emanuel's mental health before the incident. He has not yet entered a plea. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 14.
