A couple was arrested on Friday after meeting with an undercover officer in a sting operation, during which they sold the child for $3,000. Tennessee couple, 37-year-old Deanna Lynn Greer and 26-year-old John David Cain, posted an ad to Craigslist to sell their 5-month-old baby, which was seen by another couple who alerted authorities.
Sheriff Pat Hankins told the Associated Press that police contacted Greer and Cain via the ad, and the couple gave them the price. They arranged to meet at the Dollar General on Asheville Highway. After the couple handed over the baby and took the money, they were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect or endangerment, according to local news affiliate WKRN.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Office issued a warrant that alleges the couple “did knowingly place the child in threat of serious danger, bodily injury or death by selling the child to an unknown person.”
The baby is in the custody of the Department of Children’s Services, and the couple is being held on $150,000 bond.
