A father admitted in open court that he murdered his 5-year-old son during a custody battle with his estranged wife. According to Yahoo, Aramazd Andressian said "yes" when asked if he had killed his son, while his wife held an urn of the boy's ashes.
The 35-year-old pled guilty to first-degree murder the death of Aramazd Jr. following a trip to Disneyland. Authorities believe the child was killed on April 21. According to CNN, the child's mother, Ana Estevez, reported the child missing after the father didn't return him in a planned custody exchange.
The father was found unconscious the next day in his car and he had apparently taken prescription pills. His vehicle was doused in gasoline in what appears to be a suicide attempt. "He did not remember what happened to his child or any details that were useful in locating his son," Lt. Joe Mendoza of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told reporters in May.
Following a lengthy search, the child's body was found on June 30 outside Santa Barbara. Prosecutors have not revealed how he died. According to CNN, Andressian's attorney says that the father regrets his actions.
Andressian faces 25 years to life in prison. He is slated to be sentenced Aug. 23.
