Video of police officers assaulting a teen in Lampasas, Texas has gone viral. Now, police are releasing both bodycam and dashcam videos of the incident, which appears to depict similar events as shown in the video caught by a bystander.
According to KWTX, the official account of the situation states that police pulled over an "erratic driver" on May 25th. Driver Quinton Cruce was ultimately arrested for resisting arrest, assault of a public servant, driving while intoxicated, and interfering with public duties, as was passenger Gage Blackwell.
Video of the arrest posted to Twitter, caught by a third passenger who was not apprehended, tells a different story: in the footage shared on social media, a cop can be seen punching Cruce several times.
The poster of the video, identified as Syndney, said that officers threatened her and her family as well.
"The Lampasas County Sheriff's Office is aware of a video that has been circulated on social media," said Lampasas County Sheriff Jess Ramos. "The sheriff's office has contacted the prosecutor's office and has requested the assistance of an outside law enforcement agency to review and thoroughly conduct the use of force in making these arrests. As standard practice, Deputy Logan has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of this investigation."
The sheriff's office has made no comment about the more recently-released dashcam and bodycam footage.
It is unclear what, if any, consequences the arresting officers will face.
