Day Care Owner Arrested for Abandoning Children To Go Tanning

She allegedly left seven children, who ranged in age from six months to four years old, unattended.

A 31-year-old Oregon woman is accused of going tanning while leaving her home daycare unattended. According to Oregon Live, she allegedly abandoned seven children, who ranged in age from six months to four years old, for the tanning bed.

January Irene Livsey, who also goes by January Neatherlin, was arrested Wednesday and accused of seven counts of second-degree child neglect, seven counts of reckless endangering, and seven counts of criminal mistreatment and theft by deception. According to the report, detectives were watching Livsey’s home on Wednesday after they received an anonymous tip about her work ethic.

Detectives saw parents drop off children at the residence. Two hours after the surveillance began, according to the report, Livsey left the home in a vehicle.

"Detectives contacted January at a local tanning salon and noticed she did not have the children," stated a news release. According to Oregon Live, police knocked at the home day care but nobody answered. They entered the home to find the seven children alone.

Detectives contacted the state Department of Human Services and the children's parents, according to the report. The parents took their children to a local hosptial for evaluation as a precaution, said police.
