Former Disney star Michael Mantenuto committed suicide last week. He had played Jack O'Callahan in Disney's 2004 film "Miracle.” He left Hollywood behind to join the Army in 2010. According to TMZ, he was fighting ISIS with the Green Berets during his final year in the Army. He was reportedly deployed in Iraq and Syria.
A coroner in Des Moines, WA said that Mantenuto shot himself while sitting in his car.
Sources close to the former actor turned hero told TMZ that he was different when he returned from the army.
"Something happened over there,” said one source. “He saw something."
Mantenuto was a Communications Sergeant with the elite 1st Special Forces Group -- the Green Berets. According to reports, he earned several awards including the Achievement Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
