New details have been released about the 10-year-old girl who was allegedly raped and murdered while her mother watched.
Victoria Martens of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died just one day after her 10th birthday. Her mother Michelle Martens, reportedly admitted to watching while her boyfriend, Fabian Gonzales, and his cousin Jessica Kelly allegedly raped and strangled her daughter to death. Kelly also allegedly stabbed stabbed the child after she died. Then, shockingly, Michelle made dinner for the two killers.
KRQE now reports that another one of Marten’s boyfriends, David Hernandez, kissed Victoria when she was 9 years old. That incident was reported to the Albuquerque Police Department but they later decided it didn’t warrant further investigation. But that didn’t stop Victoria Martens’ grandparents from looking into it, according to the report. A little research revealed to them that Hernandez was accused of trying to kidnap a little girl off the streets.
“An adult man kissing a young girl and that’s dismissed as not as important to investigate, that’s shocking. But if you go further and know what they knew in their own files, they could have connected — this guy’s a pedophile,” the grandparents’ attorney Jason Bowles told KRQE. “She did what she could as a small child to tell adults, help, help me.”
It appears that Hernandez might have done more than just kissed Victoria. KOAT reported that after her arrest, Michelle Martens admitted that she led several men rape her daughter. Bowles believes that Hernandez was one of those men.
“It’s our information that he was sexually assaulting her, not just kissing her,” he told old KRQE. “That’s something APD should have found out, investigated and taken her out of the home.”
The young girl’s mother reportedly admitted, according to Crime Online, that she got sexual gratification out of her daughter’s fatal assault.
She and the other two suspects in Victoria's death will be tried separately, beginning with her mother’s Martens’ trial in July 2018.
