James Beck was attempting to sell his 15 year old son's dirtbike on Craigslist but somehow found himself the victim of a brutal murder, all while his child watched. The grizzly details of the story are emerging after Beck's son Stuart has come forward with his horrifying experience.
"I got [the bike] as a Christmas present and I worshiped it, because it came from my dad," Stuart Beck said. "He taught me how to ride. It started as his hobby and moved on to mine." They two decided to sell the bike after Stuart had outgrown it.
They went to meet up with potential buyers in Tampa, Florida, where Stuart watched his father get robbed and shot by 16-year-olds Ramontrae Williams and Dontae Johnson, according to KFor. Beck died from injuries shortly thereafter.
"He was a wonderful man," Stuart added. "He had a great sense of humor, always knew how to make someone laugh ... "He always had a smile on his face and he made the whole room happy."
A report from early in 2016 suggested that Craigslist had been linked to over 100 murders. Craigslist, meanwhile, maintains itself a safe site of exchange: "The overwhelming majority of craigslist users are trustworthy and well-meaning. With billions of human interactions, the incidence of violent crime related to Craigslist is extremely low," reads the websites safety page.
