Howard University Security Guards Fired For "Dumping" Woman In Wheelchair

Suspects were fired after video of the incident was made public.

Howard University has fired two security guards and their supervisor after they were accused of dumping a woman in a wheelchair on the sidewalk. ABC Affiliate WJLA broke the story in May with video of the incident.

In the clip, three security guards appear to drop a woman on the ground outside the Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. The woman, who was reportedly a patient there, tumbles on the sidewalk while the guards walk away. "What the freak is going on there?" an onlooker is heard as saying.

The disturbing video was viewed over 159,000 times. "It's horrifying," said Dr. Shelly McDonald-Pinkett, the Chief Medical Officer of the hospital, when the video came to light.

A Howard University spokeswoman issued a statement following the firings: "Howard University has worked diligently and swiftly to investigate this matter. To date, our findings have resulted in decisive action, including the dismissal of three of the individuals involved. We are continuing with our training efforts to ensure this never happens again."

The news outlet shares that they have not been able to find the victim or know what she was being treated for.
