A Goldsboro, North Carolina man accidentally shot and killed his wife Friday when she came home from work early and he mistook her for a burglar. Billy Williams, 49, told police his daughter alerted him to a noise at his front door and he assumed it was someone trying to break in. He got a gun from a safe, opened the door and fired a single shot, fatally hitting his wife Gina in the neck.
When deputies arrived at the Williams home early Friday morning, they found Billy trying vainly to administer Gina first aid. She reportedly arrived home hours earlier than expected. In a Facebook post, Billy Williams expressed remorse and revealed his wife’s last words. As reported by WYFF, it said, “This is something I will have to live with for the rest of my life. The last words Gina said to me as I held her was, ‘I love you.” Those words of have rang over and over again in my head, and every time I close my eyes I see her and hear her.”
Neighbor George Ezzell described the Williams as a tightknit family, telling NBC Wave 3 News, "You pray for the family. It’s going to be a tough one.” Authorities consider the shooting accidental and no files have been charged. Gina Williams was 48.
