An investment banker in Manhattan was killed while riding a Citi Bike. 36-year-old Dan Hanegby lost control of his bike Monday morning and was hit by a bus.
According to the NY Post, Hanegby was riding in the Chelsea neighborhood around 8:20am, per police sources, when he fell in between a coach bus and a parked car. He was then hit by the bus. “They were very close, the bus and him…unfortunately he lost his balance and went under,” said Luichys Caba, whose building caught the incident on surveillance footage. Hanegby was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead two hours later.
He was reported to be a married father of two.
Citi Bike is a popular bike-sharing program in New York City and reports 10,000 bikes. According to WPIX, dozens of bicycle riders have been struck by cars since the program began in 2013. This is the service's first fatality.
