Don Damond is speaking out about the death of his fiance, Justine Damond, at the hands of Minneapolis police. "Our hearts are broken and we are utterly devastated by the loss of Justine," Don shared in a press conference on Monday, per BBC. "Our lives are forever changed as a result of knowing her. She was so kind and so darn funny."
Originally from Australia, 40-year-old Justine lived in Minneapolis with Don. She had taken his last name prior to their wedding.
As the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports, Justine was shot and killed by a cop on Saturday after calling 911 to report a possible assault in the alley behind her home. Sources tell the publication that Justine talked to the cops that arrived and the officer in the passenger side shot her through the driver side door. The investigation is ongoing and the cops did not have their body cameras turned on. The squad camera didn't catch the incident.
The death has affected other family members. Don's son Zach took to Facebook to share his grieft and outrage. "My Mom is dead," he said in a video. "America sucks. These cops need to get trained differently. I need to move out of here."
