Actor Kevin Spacey has come out amid allegations that he molested a 14-year-old actor. Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp claims that Spacey was sexually aggressive toward him in 1986. Spacey has responded by apologizing—and saying he did not remember the incident— and coming out as gay.
Rapp told BuzzFeed that the incident occurred in Spacey's New York City apartment when both were budding theater actors. Rapp's mother often let him socialize by himself and the teen found himself alone with Spacey after going to a nightclub. "He picked me up like a groom picks up the bride over the threshold. But I don't, like, squirm away initially, because I'm like, 'What's going on?' And then he lays down on top of me," Rapp shared. “He was trying to seduce me,” Rapp said. “I don't know if I would have used that language. But I was aware that he was trying to get with me sexually.” Rapp pushed Spacey off him. “I have a memory of turning around and [thinking], What was that? What am I supposed to do with it? What does it mean?”
Rapp says that he kept his secret for decades but as Spacey's star grew, it was harder to stay quiet.
Following the allegations, many expected 58-year-old Spacey to respond. He took to Twitter to come out and apologize, although he pointed to being drunk as a possible explanation for an incident he can't remember.
Some have been critical of Spacey's response; citing that he's making excuses for his behavior.
