Carlos Quijada, a landlord in Colorado, has been sentenced to two years in prison after he was caught on camera having sex in a tenant's apartment.
According to The Smoking Gun, Quijada's activity was caught by Logan Pierce and Mikaela DiGiulio's Nest security system in their Colorado Springs apartment. Pierce received a notification on his phone that motion detectors had been activated, revealing a live stream of the ilicit and illegal activity.
“It detected noise and was strange because both of us work all day everyday,” Pierce said. “I opened up the camera and kind of had to, like, quit the program and, like, restart it again because I didn’t really believe what I saw ... It was like a total violation of privacy. Just to have somebody to come in unannounced is enough, but … then go forth with sleeping with somebody on your bed while you’re not there. It was scary.”
“I said, ‘Honey, I think we need to move, like, immediately," he added.
“Obviously landlords don’t have the ability to go into tenant apartments and do whatever they want to do,” said Lt. Howard Black with the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Quijada and his unnamed male partner engaged in oral and anal sex and used articles DiGiulio's clothing, including a dress she wore at her wedding, to clean themselves. The dress was later seized as evidence.
The couple immediately moved out of the apartment and into a nearby Super 8 hotel, where they are both employed.
Quijada was officially charged with criminal trespassing, a felony, and misdemeanor obscenity.
