A Michigan man was charged with murder on Monday after he answered the door to police officers covered in blood and told them that his wife was dead, People reported.

Police were at the home of Noah and Kristy Ravenscroft after one of their young children called 911 and said that his father was going for a kitchen knife.

One of the children saw his father holding down his mother, who ordered her son to run, the Oakland County Sheriff told a local radio station.

Deputies found Kristy’s body on the living room floor, covered in knife wounds. The married couple’s three children were upstairs.

“We have been in this business a long time and the sadness only seems to grow,”  said Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard in a statement. “We still hope society will learn how to deal with abusers and create a fully functional mental health system.”

A judge pleaded not guilty on behalf of Noah Ravenscroft, who was denied bond for his initial hearing. He is a former executive at the mortgage loan company Quicken Loans.
