Man Convicted For Killing 2-Year-Old Bella Bond, Thought She Was Possessed By Demons

Bella's mother helped dispose of her body, which washed up in the Boston Harbor in 2015.

Michael McCarthy is getting life in prison for the murder of Bella Bond. McCarthy was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole in 20 years, on Wednesday in Suffolk Superior Court. According to CBS Bostonhe was found guilty of second degree murder on Monday for killing the 2-year-old.

Prosecutors allege that McCarthy killed Bond, who was the daughter of his girlfriend Rachelle, because he believed the child was possessed by demons. Rachelle testified that McCarthy killed the child and she helped dispose of her body.

 

She is set to be sentenced July 12.

The crime garnered national attention when Bella's body was washed up in the Boston Harbor in 2015. Authorities did not know her identity and a created composite image of her—dubbed "Baby Doe"— that went viral.
