Wes Craven probably never imagined that his most notorious character would become someone's actual nightmare. But this weekend in San Antonio, Texas, a man dressed as Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare On Elm Street opened fire at a Halloween party, making truth (once again) much scarier (and stranger) than fiction.
According to Fox News, it all went down when some uninvited guests showed up to a house party at around 5am on Sunday. After starting a fight, the intruders were asked to leave — but the situation escalated from there. One of the troublemakers, dressed as the fictional scarred serial killer, pulled out a shotgun and began shooting.
"I woke up my husband and said, ‘Hey, there’s a gunshot,’" said Cassie Nogueron, who lives right next door to where the shots were fired. "There was about five or six more after that."
"People running to their cars, running away or running to the people that were hurt,” said Nogueron. “My gut instinct was to see does anybody need help, was everybody okay."
The suspects are yet to be found: "It does make it more of a mystery of who was the person really because they didn't look like themselves," said Nogeuron.
Luckily, no fatalities were reported from the incident. All five victims are now recovering at a nearby hospital.
Let's hope there isn't a sequel to this story.
