A Long Island man was arrested on manslaughter charges after he ran over his girlfriend after they had gotten into an argument about her smoking, CBS News reported.
Robert Savinetti, 57, allegedly ran over his girlfriend, Lisa Miceli, on Tuesday night after they both went out to eat at a Mediterranean restaurant.
They reportedly left the establishment at about 11 pm and got into an argument outside. Savinetti then got into his car without his girlfriend and drove away as Miceli ran alongside the car and banged on the windows, police said.
At this point, she fell under the back wheels, but Savinetti kept driving, killing Miceli, prosecutors say. He went back for her only later.
Savinetti told police that he had four glasses of wine at dinner; police said he had a blood-alcohol level of twice the legal limit, according to CBS.
He had left her at the restaurant “to teach her a lesson about smoking,” Savinetti told police, according to court documents quoted by Newsday.
