A West Virginia man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of his ex-wife, mere hours after her remarriage to another man. As reported by NBC affiliate WVVA, 34-year-old William Jessie Seal fatally stabbed his ex-wife 26-year-old Ashley Seal 86 times in June 2015, four hours after she had married Douglas Martin.
The Seals had divorced in 2014 but continued to live together for sometime after. Martin, whom Ashley had just married, lived in the same apartment complex as the divorced couple. Following Ashley and Martin’s marriage at the Mercer County Courthouse on June 15, 2015, she had gone to her ex-husband’s apartment to "pick up a few things," according to family members. That is when the attack and murder occurred.
William Seal’s defense team had tried to argue that it was Ashley who attacked him with a knife, and that he was merely defending himself, according to CBS WNCN. The jury, however, wasn’t buying it, and convicted him after an hour of deliberations. Seal faces a sentence of 10 to 40 years in prison.
