Man Murders Pregnant Wife To Keep Her From Taking Their Kids

Her baby survived for a few minutes outside the womb before dying.

A Minnesota man was convicted for murdering his pregnant wife last spring in an attempt to prevent her from gaining custody of their children, People reported.

Yevgeniy “Eugene” Savenok, 31, pleaded guilty late last week to the premeditated murder of his 23-year-old wife, Lyuba Savenok, and their unborn child, who was six and a half weeks into his gestation.

Eugene and his wife were estranged before Lyuba’s death, and were living in separate homes at the time, in part because of a restraining order Lyuba had taken against him in response to domestic abuse.

On May 13, Eugene stabbed Lyuba more than a dozen times with a kitchen knife, leaving her in a pool of her own blood on the kitchen floor, before fleeing the house with their two young children.

When officers arrived at the scene, Eugene was gone and Lyuba was dead. She was rushed to the hospital and given an emergency C-section. The baby boy survived briefly outside of the womb, only to die within minutes.

Several hours later, Eugene drove to a hospital and told a security guard he had killed his wife, turning himself into police.

Eugene Savenok was sentenced to more than 65 years in prison.
