A North Carolina man pleaded guilty on Monday to the the statutory rape of a teenager who became pregnant.
Police were called after the victim was found crying in a backyard. She told police that 24-year-old Pasqual Mendez hit her and shoved her down because she didn't cook dinner, according to WBTV.
“Mendez alleged the two were married and told officers he had purchased the 14-year-old girl from Guatemala six months earlier," court documents. The girl said her mom and Mendez arranged the relationship. She met Mendez when she arrived at the Charlotte airport to be his arranged “partner.”
"Her life consisted of cooking and cleaning for him and being forced to engage in sexual activity with him every day," court documents said. "She informed investigators she did not want the sexual acts to take place and tried to push away the defendant."
The girl, who is now in custody of social services, is now pregnant, according to the Charlotte Observer. Mendez will be required to register as a sex offender for 30 years and he faces between 12 and 19 years of prison.
