A man from Raleigh, North Carolina allegedly consumed too much cough syrup, and then woke up to find his wife stabbed to death.

Matthew James Phelps, 29, called 911 at 1:10 am Friday. After giving his name, address and phone number, he said, “I think I killed my ..,” before trailing off, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

Lauren Ashley-Nicole Phelps, 29, was found fatally stabbed at the townhouse where they both lived. The two had been married less than a year.

“I had a dream and then I turned on the lights and she’s dead on the floor,” Phelps told the dispatcher. When she asked how, he responded, “There’s blood all over me, and there’s a bloody knife on the bed. I think I did it.”

He added that the blood on him was dried, and no longer wet.

According to BuzzFeed, Phelps admitted to taking too much Coricidin Cough & Cold because it felt good.

“She didn’t deserve this," a distressed Phelps said of his wife.

He graduated from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College in 2011, where he studied mission and evangelism, according to his Facebook page. He is currently being held without bail.
