Violence broke out during Mass at a church on Saturday. A Catholic bishop was punched in the face by a man in what was described as a "shocking and horrific moment."
According to Fox 8, a man dressed in a white suit with a matching hat, went up to the altar at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Newark, New Jersey on Saturday. He casually walked up and swung at Bishop Manuel Cruz, punching him in the mouth and knocking him down.
Witnesses were in disbelief by the incident. "It was a very shocking and horrific moment," shared parishioner Mark Bonamo. "Some people ducked, others screamed."
The church happened to be filled with police officers and the suspect, a man named Charles Miller, was quickly apprehended. His motive for the act is not yet clear. He has been charged with aggravated assault.
The entire ordeal was caught on camera by the church and shared with Fox 8.
