The Ohio man who married and fathered four children with his one-time stepdaughter, before she killed their three sons, has pled guilty to sexual imposition and must register as a sex offender for the next 15 years. The tale of Joseph and Brittany Pilkington is unseemly and ultimately tragic. After moving in with Brittany’s mother when the girl was 9, they began a sexual relationship when she was 17. They later married and had four children, a girl and three boys whom Brittany has confessed to suffocating to death.
Police say Brittany Pilkington killed her three sons, including 4-year-old Gavin and 3-month-old twins Noah and Niall, in separate incidents between July of 2014 and August of 2015 at the Pilkington family home in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She allegedly told authorities that she murdered them because their father Joseph spent too much time doting on the boys and ignoring the couple’s 3-year-old daughter Hailey. Now 24, Brittany is scheduled to go on trial for murder in October and prosecutor’s may seek the death penalty.
Joseph Pilkington was initially charged with sexual battery, which was later downgraded to sexual imposition, a misdemeanor. His lawyer had argued against jail time, saying he had already suffered enough.
