A Michigan mom allegedly tried to kill her son by locking him in a car and setting it on fire.
Sherri Marie Richter, 48, was arraigned Thursday on one count of assault with intent to murder and one count of arson, according to CBS Detroit.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said that Richter bound her son’s wrists and locked him inside the family’s Ford Focus on Tuesday. Then, she allegedly attempted to set the vehicle on fire at a cemetery. Richter allegedly poured gasoline inside the passenger compartment, where her son was sitting. The fire did not ignite, and eventually Richter let her son out of the car, according to CBS Detroit. The boy, age 11, was treated for minor injuries, according to CBS News.
Richter remains lodged in jail on a $100,000 bond.
Authorities have not discussed a possible motive and information is asked to call Det. Mike Preadmore at 734-240-7719 or 734-240-7530.
