A middle school teacher in Kentucky has been charged with rape for allegedly having sex with a former student.
Lindsey Banta Jarvis was a social studies teacher up until her resignation in June 2016. Around the same time she is accused of having sexual encounters with her former student, who was younger than 16, according to WYKT. In August, Jarvis was hired as a teacher’s aide at an elementary school. She resigned from that position last Friday.
On Monday, Jarvis' attorney entered a plea of not guilty. She is charged with one count of third-degree rape, one count of third-degree sodomy, and one count of unlawful transaction with a minor.
According to WYKT, Jarvis’ arrest report states that the victim told police he had sexual intercourse with Jarvis. The victim’s cell phone allegedly showed messages between him and Jarvis that suggested they were in a romantic relationship.
Jarvis is married, according to the arrest report. According to WDRB, she was accompanied by a man in court but he was not identified.
