The search for missing 12-year-old Naomi Jones is over. Off-duty officers found the girl's body in a fishing spot on Monday in Eight Mile Creek in Pensacola, Florida. The creek is four miles away from Jones' home
According to First Coast News, Jones was missing since last Wednesday afternoon. Authorities are now investigating the girl's disappearance and death. “We have reason to believe through all the activities that have occurred over the last five days that we now have sufficient information to pursue some individuals who are persons of interest, who may be involved not only in the disappearance of Naomi, but quite possibly may be involved with her homicide,” Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said.
The sheriff did not go into detail on whether any persons of interest were in custody or whether the police thought the girl was murdered.
Jones' body was found after an extensive search including more than 200 tips, 300 interviews and 30 search warrants.
The local police and FBI are working together on the case.
