It’s hard being a parent in the era of social media. With the proliferation of smart phones, there’s only so much control you have over what your children post online. Which is why one Georgia mom reached her breaking point after finding out her daughter is sexually active and posting racy pics of herself and her boyfriend online.
For over five grueling minutes, Shanavia Miller smacks and berates her 16-year-old daughter Nia Green for “being a thot” and posting “nasty as Hell” photos of herself on Facebook. Despite scientific studies showing that physical punishment is ineffective and harmful, some see this Georgia mom's behavior as an example of the tough parenting needed in this ever-confusing world where young teenagers exchange sexually explicit text messages and photos for all to see. To others, it is child abuse, plain and simple. The nearby Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the incident and have spoken to both mother and daughter, however have refused to press charges after Nia said she felt safe in the home.
For their part, Shanavia and Nia acknowledge the severity of the incident but both say it is indicative of how much they love and care about each other. On her daughter’s Facebook page Shanavia said “I love my daughter with all my heart” with Nia saying “I Shouldnt Embarrassed My Moma , I Love Her,” adding “I Shouldnt even been doing what i did.”
