An Iowa woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to burning her 10-month-old son’s arm with hot coffee in order to “teach him a lesson.”

According to the Daily Nonpareil, Rebecca Brahier, 36, was asked if she wanted to comment before sentencing and the mom said she was “ready to go.”

“The child was wearing pajamas, which increased the severity of the burn,” Peter Tenny, Brahnier’s attorney said. “The child’s wounds are healing well now, and (Brahier) is responsible for acting in a manner that created the circumstances.”

According to KCCI, the infant tried to touch Brahier's hot coffee a few times before the mom put his hand into the mug. The baby suffered second-degree burns.

During an interview with police, Brahier reportedly said she intentionally submerged the child’s hand and arm into the hot coffee “in an attempt to teach the child a lesson.” According to the Daily Nonpareil, she did it to prove to the infant that the coffee was hot.

The mom was sentenced to five years of prison.
