There’s no doubt the pressures of being a single parent can be staggering. Making sure kids get enough to eat, are clean and clothed, get their homework done and don’t get into trouble is enough work for two parents, let alone one. However, it’s unfathomable to most people that the pressures would be so great they could lead a parent to murder. Sadly, a Texas mother of two was pushed past the breaking point this past weekend and did just that.
Police say 30-year-old Sheborah Thomas of Houston, Texas picked up her 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son from childcare last Friday, brought them home, fed them dinner, and then drowned them in the family bathtub. After picking up a paycheck from work Saturday, she tried to bury their bodies but when that proved too difficult, she hid them underneath an unsuspecting neighbor’s house. By Sunday she was on the move and asked an acquaintance to help her move. When he asked where her children were, she responded matter of factly, “I killed them.” He then drove her up the street to the nearest police station and turned her in.
Friends and family are still reeling from the heinous crime and trying to make sense of it. They say Sheborah had no previous history of mental illness. The father of Sheborah’s children is currently incarcerated. If there is any silver lining to this darkest of stories it is that the two had a third child, a 12-year-old, who was unharmed.
