A Connecticut mom turned herself into police last week after she was accused of leaving her baby in a car for nearly an hour while she shopped for shoes.
Thirty-four-year-old Kathryn Ferguson allegedly left her 11-week-old in her SUV while she shopped at Shoes ‘N’ More. She bought two pairs of shoes before cooling off with a mint lemonade at Le Pain Quotidien, according to WCVB.
Meanwhile, her baby was suffering. The car was turned off and its windows were closed. It was 85 degrees outside. Police determined the baby was left in the car for about 45 minutes.
Ferguson called police herself because she returned to the child screaming. She claimed she forgot the baby was in the car as the infant had been quiet and sleeping.
Ferguson also maintained that she was only gone for 10 minutes, Inside Edition reports. When police arrived the baby was matted down with sweat.
Ferguson was charged with risk of injury to a child. The 11-week-old went to the hospital but has been released, New Canaan News reported.
