A mother in North Carolina is furious that a coworker breastfed her baby without permission. According to ABC11, Kaycee Oxendine wants to press charges against a daycare worker at Carrboro Early School—where she also works— for feeding her son and making him sick.
Oxendine says that another teacher at the school said that the baby was constipated. The coworker in question asked to breastfeed her son but she refused. Later, Oxendine saw surveillance video of the woman picking up her son and breastfeeding him. "She said that she had a son and did I want her to put my child to her breast and breastfeed?" she said. "And I said no, that's nasty. We don't do things like that." She added, "As a mom, you've taken something from me because I wasn't able to defend my child. I wasn't there."
ABC11 has been told that the employee in question is no longer there. The daycare director said she is licensed and has more than 10 years of childcare experience.
Oxendine wants to press charges, saying that her baby had to go to the hospital due to his lactose intolerance. "To me, a criminal act was committed against him," she said. "Not only did you put your breast to my son, you also made my son sick because he's lactose intolerant. So you've put something in his body that his body can't digest."
The police are investigating this as misdemeanor child abuse. No charges have been filed.
