A Pennsylvania woman has been charged with homicide for the death of her 2-month-old son in circumstances eerily familiar to the death of another newborn of hers five years earlier. Jessica Harper of Fulton Township served 85 days in jail after pleading guilty to child abuse charges in 2011 for leaving her infant unattended on a couch for up to 2 hours where it asphyxiated to death while she texted friends in another room. Now the 28-year-old is facing charges of third-degree murder, endangering the welfare of children and involuntary manslaughter after another child died while sleeping in bed with her mother and a 3-year-old sibling.[embed_code code="%3Ciframe%20width%3D%22590%22%20height%3D%22332%22%20src%3D%22http%3A%2F%2Flaunch.newsinc.com%2F%3Ftype%3DVideoPlayer%2FSingle%26widgetId%3D1%26trackingGroup%3D69016%26siteSection%3Dnydailynews-news%26videoId%3D31369358%22%20frameborder%3D%22no%22%20scrolling%3D%22no%22%20noresize%20marginwidth%3D%220%22%20marginheight%3D%220%22%3E%3C%2Fiframe%3E"][/embed_code]
According to investigators, Harper was warned multiple times by doctors about the dangers of co-sleeping, where an infant sleeps in the same bed as a parent. Despite these warnings, however, she allegedly told people she was going to do it anyway. After her son’s death in July, Harper explained to police that she found her son not breathing after sleeping with him and his older sister. After concluding their investigation, authorities arrested her at her home. Harper has at least three other children, all of whom are now in the custody of child protective services.
