A mother and daughter died in separate traffic accidents in the same half hour last Tuesday.
The victims, according to the Huffington Post, are 39-year-old Julie Yates Patterson and her 8-year-old daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Patterson.
The accidents happened about 7 miles apart from each other, both near the family’s home.
“The mother’s car was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle and then about a half hour later, the daughter was crossing the road when she was struck by a car,” police told the Huffington Post. A school bus had dropped Elizabeth Patterson off minutes before she was hit. She had recently celebrated her 8th birthday, the Times Free Press reported.
The accident that killed Julia Yates Patterson injured at least two other people, according to the report. Their conditions are unknown. The driver of the vehicle that hit the child was reportedly not injured.
Police said that the small rural community is “mostly in shock and disbelief.”
“It’s quite a coincidence,” police said. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it.”
An account at Gofundme.com has been created to help pay for funeral expenses. As of Wednesday morning, over $6,000 has been raised.
