Murderer Of 11-Year-Old Says He's Sorry...27 Years Later

Can the boy's family ever forgive him?

Back in 1989, 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling was abducted near his home in central Minnesota. Only now is the Wetterling family finally getting close to peace. Their son's murderer finally came forward with a confession and apology.

The murderer, Danny Heinrich, had been arrested on child pornography charges last year. This summer, Heinrich led police to Jacob's remains as part of a plea bargain. Now, Heinrich is offering the Wetterling family an apology for his crimes, which included the sexual assault of their child.

According to Pix11: "[T]he Annandale man admitted he had committed a heinous and unforgivable act, and apologized to the Wetterling family for what he took away from them."

Some other grizzly details also emerged from the admission: "Heinrich quoted a handcuffed Jacob as saying, 'What did I do wrong?'"

Patty Wettterling, the mother of Jacob, is far from accepting her son's fate but told the murderer that she won’t “waste a minute of time” thinking about him “from this day forward.”

Heinrich faces 20 years in prison.
