The newborn child found in the apartment where pregnant woman Savanna Greywind was last seen before she was killed looks just like Greywind, her parents said.
Haisley Jo, who was just two days old when she was discovered by investigators, is likely Greywind’s daughter, police said, though DNA results are still forthcoming.
“She is beautiful,” Norberta Greywind, Savanna’s mother, told a local outlet after she and her husband were able to see the infant girl at a hospital on Wednesday.
Savanna’s boyfriend, Ashton Matheny, was also able to see the infant this week.
“It was the best feeling I’ve ever had,” he told The Bismarck Tribune. “I wish Savanna could have been there to enjoy it with me. After all these dark days, she lit my day right up.”
The eight-month pregnant woman went missing August 19 after she went to an upstairs neighbor’s home for a dress fitting. The couple who lived in the apartment, William Henry Hoehn and Brooke Lynn Crews, were later arrested in Savanna’s kidnapping after police found the infant girl in Crews’ arms.
At the time, police said, Hoehn was mopping up blood in the pair’s bathroom.
According to investigators, Crews told police that she taught the pregnant woman how to self-induce birth, and Savanna gave her the infant baby voluntarily. But Crews said that Savanna gave birth on August 21, after she had already gone missing.
Greywind’s body was found in North Dakota’s Red River on Sunday, wrapped in plastic and duct tape.
