Once again Walmart is in the news as the scene of a possible crime, in this case, child abuse. Police and child protective services in Cleveland, Texas are investigating an area father after a photo of him dragging his young daughter by her hair in the supermarket chain went viral on Facebook.
The photos were taken Monday and posted to Facebook by Erika Burch, a 24-year-old mother of four who was at Walmart buying school lunches for her children. She said she saw the little girl crying and when she confronted the man and told him to stop he replied, “‘No, bitch, you need to mind your business.” She then took the photos while another shopper called 911. After arriving at the scene and questioning the man, however, police said they were unable to arrest him since there were no bruises on the child.
Burch then took to social media to castigate the father who she thinks is guilty of child abuse. She posted her pictures she took of the man to her Facebook page, and they’ve been shared over 213,000 shares and generated 19,000 comments. The Cleveland Police Department has posted their own Facebook post, saying, “We want to assure the community this case is currently being investigated by our Detective Division. CPS has been contacted per our policy and is also investigating this case. A joint investigation is currently being conducted by both agencies.”
